Romania is jumping onto the band wagon that has the state trying to influence the reduction of salt, sugar and fat in fast food. Romania is trying to fight weight gain and reverse the trend into one of weight loss.

Romania wants to impose a “Fat Tax” or extra charge on fast (processed) food that contains high amounts of fat, sugar and salt. Romania’s state coffers could benefit as much as £860m.

Romania argues that fast food is unhealthy and thus should be taxed to fund the state’s alternative program to eat healthy food. Romania thinks that its country men and women can do with some weight loss so they are providing the incentive with national health programs. These will be funded by the “fat tax”.

In the US, the First Lady, Michelle Obama, wants to educate children on healthy dietary habits. Mrs Obama has appeared on a special TV program to emphasize the benefits of eating fresh vegetables.
